Week later.....
I find it funny that the reason I dusted this blog off was to track my progress in my Wellness Journey and I haven't written a thing since I started! So here goes!
My mind set must really be in a good place because in my "past life" if I knew I was starting a diet the day after the Blueberry Festival, I would have eaten my way from one end of the park to the other! Not this year...I had 1 blueberry donut to see what all the hype was about...ehh, not so great. I had a taco from Taco Garden and I had kettle corn. That was it.
Before I get to the Trail of Exercise, I want to brag a bit about my lil boy! On Labor Day, we traveled to Manchester University to watch the Trine Football team play. Cole got to play and even got his hands on the ball! It was so great to see him out on the field, playing the game he loves. It was so crazy...right when Cole came on the field the first time, a large butterfly flew right by us and onto the field. We all looked each other and said "Grandma's here!" Trine chalked up a WIN over Manchester so it was a great day!
Okay...on to Boot Camp! Getting up at 5:00 am is not really anything I have done in the past. Even when I worked at 7:00 am, I waited til the last possible minute to get up. But I got up and around pretty well and headed out on this new journey. It was a little intimidating and I was glad Kathy was with me. The first half of class we talked about who we were, what brought us to boot camp and what we want to accomplish. Then we talked about the Clean Eating we will be doing. I had already done a great deal of research on this and was pretty convinced I could do it. The biggest thing is to cut out sugar and processed food. The upside is, you should eat every 2-3 hours...I can handle that! Sidenote...now that I have been doing it for a week, I find I am rarely hungry except after a good workout. So the exercise started and I was a little unsure of some things but pretty confident in others. Kevin and I have been walking so my endurance is getting better but my balance STINKS!! We did lunges and I swear I almost fell over every time. It is my goal to improve my balance. We finished out the class and I was sweating but I wasn't dying. At least not until I got to the car and had a realization...We sat and talked for over half the class time. That was only 1/2 of a workout. Thursday was gonna be brutal!!
I made a deal with myself that even on non-boot camp days, I was going to the gym to do a cardio workout. I have been given this amazing opportunity, I am going to make the most of it! So the next morning at 5:15 am I met my friend Jeni at the gym and we did an hour of cardio stuff. All day on Wednesday, I was quite sure I was going to fall down the steps because the fronts of my thighs hurt so much! I felt like some old woman hanging onto the handrails and praying that my legs wouldn't give out! Thurday Boot Camp wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The coolest part of this program is you never do the same thing for more than 2 minutes before you move onto the next thing. You may come back to the same things but by then, your body has recovered and you can move on. Friday morning was another hour of cardio this time with Kathy...still at 5:15 am though! But amazingly enough, I am starting to the like this early morning idea. After I work out, I come home and take a shower, and then fix myself some breakfast. I have never been a breakfast eater but I am really enjoying it. Some days it is Kashi cereal with skim milk, some days it is a whole wheat english muffin with natural peanut butter on it but today it was a scrambled egg on a whole wheat english muffin with sliced up string cheese on it! It was awesome and I was full all the way til lunch. I wasn't going to go to the gym on the weekends because it was going to be my resting time but Jeni asked if I could go tomorrow afternoon and I agreed. At least I get to sleep in for a bit!
I am amazed at how much better I am feeling already. I have lost 5 pounds, by my scale and I think my mood is better.
I am going to try and do better about posting. If anyone wants to come work out with me, please feel free!!! I am there on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 5:15 am. It is a good time because there aren't many people there!
